Randburg Jewellery Store

This Randburg jewellery store needed a secure way to present watches and fine pieces without crowding the floor or weakening control over stock. iTouch 360 supplied compact information kiosks and refined rotating displays that helped staff guide shoppers through the range with less handling and better visibility.

Randburg Brief: High-Value Retail With Tight Floor Space

The client was a jewellery retailer in Randburg serving walk-in customers who wanted quick product detail, clear pricing and a more polished in-store experience. The store had a compact sales floor, limited back-of-house space and a strong need for security around premium items, so every fixture had to do more than just look good.

The brief called for two functions in one store. First, compact touchscreen kiosks for product information, promotions and care instructions. Second, a set of rotating watch displays that would show the face, strap and finish of each item without repeated handling by staff. The client wanted a neat fit with the existing cabinetry, low power draw and a setup that could cope with day-to-day retail pressure.

  • Store type: independent jewellery retailer
  • Location: Randburg, Gauteng
  • Goal: improve customer interaction without increasing stock risk
  • Floor challenge: limited aisle width and a busy front counter area

What We Had To Work Around

Jewellery retail has a different set of rules from general merchandise. Displays must feel open enough to invite a look, but controlled enough to prevent unnecessary touching. The store also wanted equipment that would keep working during load-shedding and not create extra admin for the team.

We planned for the usual Randburg retail pressures as well, including steady foot traffic, dust from door openings and the need to keep surfaces looking clean through long trading days. Because the store sells items with small finishes and reflective surfaces, lighting and screen glare had to be managed carefully. We also had to keep the footprint compact so staff could move freely behind the counter and in the browsing area.

The installation was set up in a way that could be maintained by the store team without special tools. Where possible we used enclosed cable paths, lockable access points and durable surfaces suited to regular cleaning.

  • Compact footprint to preserve walkways
  • Low-glare screen placement for brighter retail lighting
  • Secure access for staff only
  • Battery backup friendly setup for power interruptions

Compact Kiosks And Rotating Watch Displays

We supplied two compact touchscreen kiosks for product education and assisted selling, plus refined rotating display stands for selected watch lines. The kiosks were positioned at decision points in the store so customers could browse styles, compare models and review product detail before speaking to a consultant. This reduced pressure on staff during busy periods and helped shoppers move through the range at their own pace.

The rotating displays were built for stable, slow movement with a clean presentation angle. That allowed a single watch to be seen from several sides without being lifted or passed around constantly. The stands were sized to suit premium counter presentation, with a focus on tidy cable management and a professional finish that would sit well in a jewellery environment.

  • 2 x compact touchscreen kiosks
  • Rotating watch display units with slow-turn presentation
  • Touch surfaces set for regular retail use
  • Enclosed cable routing for a clean counter line
  • Configuration suited to jewellery product viewing

Installation, Software Setup And Staff Handover

The project ran over three weeks from site assessment to handover. Week one covered the on-site assessment, measurements and positioning plan. Week two focused on supply, content loading and software configuration. Week three covered delivery installation, testing and staff training. The timeline stayed tight because the client wanted the store ready before a planned trading push.

During installation, our team checked sightlines, screen height and cable routes so the kiosks would not interfere with customer flow or the security layout. The software was set to simple navigation with short pathways to the most useful information, including product categories, care guidance and promotional content. The client team was trained to switch between content sets, check device status and handle basic daily use. We also set up support steps for fault reporting, preventative checks and replacement parts if needed.

  • Site assessment and layout planning
  • Content loading with clear product pathways
  • Software configuration for easy day-to-day use
  • Installation completed with minimal disruption to trading
  • Staff training for use, care and basic checks

Results On The Floor

The finished setup gave the Randburg store a cleaner sales floor and a more controlled way to present premium stock. Customers could inspect product detail on the kiosks before requesting assistance, while the rotating displays added interest to the watch section without cluttering the counter. Staff reported that the store felt easier to manage during busy periods because fewer items needed to be handled repeatedly.

The client also liked that the system supported different types of selling. A browser could look quietly at screen content, while a buyer ready to talk could be served immediately with the right product in view. In practical terms, the store gained a better balance between presentation and security, which is exactly what high-value retail needs.

  • Better customer engagement at the point of sale
  • Less handling of premium stock
  • Clearer presentation in a compact floor area
  • More efficient staff interaction with shoppers

What We Would Do Again For Similar Jewellery Stores

For a similar jewellery project, we would use the same approach: keep the footprint compact, place kiosks where they support decision-making and use rotating displays only where they improve product visibility. That combination works well in smaller Randburg showrooms, mall units and suburban jewellery stores across Gauteng, especially where every square metre matters.

We would also repeat the same practical setup around power planning, secure access and simple staff handover. In a jewellery environment, the best result is usually the one that looks calm on the surface while doing a lot of work behind the scenes. That was the case here, and it is the reason the store now has a more controlled and welcoming way to present its range.

  • Use compact units instead of oversized fixtures
  • Plan for power interruptions from the start
  • Keep content simple and direct
  • Match the finish to the store fittings and lighting

Questions we get asked

Why use touchscreen kiosks in a jewellery store?

They let customers compare product details, care information and promotions without handling stock too much, which helps with security and keeps the counter organised.

Can rotating displays work in a small showroom?

Yes. The units are useful in tight retail spaces because they show more of the item without needing a larger cabinet or extra floor area.

Do these systems need special electrical planning?

Usually yes. We check power points, cable routes and backup needs during the site assessment so the setup suits the store layout and local load-shedding conditions.
